Norway… the land of fjords, northern lights, trolls and reindeers, and not to mention being an fantastic destination for school groups.
The location for yet another amazing trip for one of our international schools from Saudi Arabia. The week long adventure took a group of 24 students around the country on trains, planes, (no automobiles unfortunately), coaches and fjord ferries. Visiting three distinct places of Norway (Oslo, Bergen and Tromso), the students had a fun packed time with a variety of activities.
The itinerary started with the high speed train journey across Norway and the historical trip on the Flamsbanen railway to the port village of Flam. Here the group boarded their ferry to sail the UNESCO world heritage site of the Aurlandsfjord and the narrow Nærøyfjord.
Once in Bergen, renowned for its historical fishing port, the students took in a fishing trip on an old schooner, and time to visit the old Bryggen (historical colourful houses along the quay) and the funicular railway for impressive views across the city.
From Bergen, the group flew to the northern city of Tromso where they spent two days living in traditional Sami laavu tents and cabins, while trying their hand at dog sledding and reindeer sledding. The prize was seeing the northern lights at midnight and fun trying to capture the perfect photo!
The return to Oslo had the group tour the city (Nobel Peace Prize Centre and museum, the Viking Ship museum, Royal Palace); sing along with a famous Norwegian singer, Marit Larsen in a private once in a lifetime concert; and finally dare to fly on the world’s second fastest zip-line from the top of the Holmenkollen Ski jump!
An amazing trip with an amazing group of students and teachers, who will all cherish their time in Norway with memories lasting a very long time! Contact us for more information on visiting Norway!
